Back lever, human flag, crow pose, bent-arm planche are USELESS. Go straight to planche and front lever. That’s what a lot of coaches say. Seriously? Then let’s tell a toddler to skip crawling and just run. Skip the planche and go straight to the maltese. Skip the push-up and go straight to the planche push-up. Not everyone who starts calisthenics is a gifted teenager. A lot of you are men in your 20s, 30s and 40s who have never trained before. Beginner skills: crow pose, L-sit, headstand Intermediate skills: back lever, bent-arm planche, human flag, dragon flag, handstand These build body control, mind-muscle connection, and the foundation for advanced skills. I’ve seen people start planche with no base and stay stuck at tuck planche for a WHOLE YEAR. The order: 1. Build strength 2. Master beginner skills 3. Build control and mind-muscle connection 4. Master intermediate skills 5. Then move to advanced skills You don’t run before you walk. You don’t become Einstein without learning basic math. “This skill comes for free” isn’t true for everyone. For some people, the planche takes years. Coaches who say these skills come for free: what’s your argument? Write it in the comments.

Planche is not a jump. It’s a press. Jump in and you land in a shape you never built. Press in and you build it every rep.
